Free baggage allowance

All your luggage, including a single piece of hand luggage that you wish to take into the passenger cabin, has to be shown to our check-in staff. This is required for safety reasons.

Before check-in, please put a name and address tag on each piece of your baggage.

Your free baggage allowance depends on your flight destinations and service class. Any luggage that is accepted for carriage
by Aeroflot will be marked by the check-in staff and is called checked. Please take care of your baggage receipts which you will
need in case of delay or baggage loss.

Aeroflot is introducing new simplified baggage policy concept, by implementing harmonized Piece Concept on all Aeroflot routes*.

  • The new Piece Concept will be valid for any tickets issued on/after 01.04.2011 only.
  • New Piece Concept is differentiated based on travel class and / or ticket type.
  • The old weight concept rules and excess baggage charges are valid for ticket issued on / before 31.03.2011.

The most advantageous benefits for the customer are:

  • Simplicity
  • Transparency
  • Customer friendly charge for extrapiece

Questions & Answers

Q1: Why is Aeroflot changing baggage policy from weight to piece concept?

A1: The change will make the baggage policy simple, understandable, customer friendly, similar to most European airlines.

Q2: Is the new piece concept valid also on SU marketing flights operated by another airline?
A2: No, in this case operating carrier rules will apply, with the exception of travels to/from USA (upon SU/DL code-share is in place), where baggage rules will apply always according to the carrier booked as marketing carrier on the outbound transatlantic sector.

Q3: Which baggage rules apply when two or more carriers are participating within one journey?
A3: In this case the rules of the most significant carrier will apply (contact Aeroflot for further explanation).

Q4: Can a passenger holding a ticket with the old weight concept be accepted on/after 01.04.2011?
A4: Yes, such passenger will be accepted still according to the weight concept rules.

Q5: Will pooling rule be accepted for passengers booked within one PNR?
A5: Yes, pooling rule applies.

Q6: If the passenger travelling within Europe in Economy STATUS (= booking class Y or S) is having extra piece which is oversized (200cm) and overweight (25kg), what will be the applicable charge?
A6: In this case passenger will pay 150 EUR for extra piece (rate valid for third and any additional piece applies in this case since passenger already has 2PC FBA) + 100 EUR for oversize + 100 EUR for overweight, total 350 EUR.

Q7: What will be the charge for PETC?
A7: The PETC will be charged according to rates valid for second, third or additional piece based on how many baggage pieces are being checked. When passenger is having economy ticket with 1PC FBA and checking 1 baggage piece and 1 PETC, the PETC will be charged as second piece 50 EUR.

Q8: What will be the charge for AVIH?
A8: The AVIH will be charged according to rates valid for second, third or additional piece based on how many baggage pieces are being checked, same policy as for PETC. But AVIH can be also oversized and / or overweight. In this case the customer will have to pay 50 EUR for second piece + 100 EUR for overweight + 100 EUR for oversized, total 250 EUR. This is in the case when passenger is having economy class ticket for international travel with 1PC FBA and 1 baggage piece is being checked.

Q9: How will Bike, Golf and Ski equipment be treated?
A9: Bike, Golf and Ski will be treated within free baggage allowance as one piece regard-less of the weight and size. If the passenger is holding an economy ticket with FBA 1PC and is having one bag and one pair of ski, the ski will be charged as extra piece (50EUR). The same rule is valid for golf equipment and bike.

Q10: How will other sport equipment except Bike, Golf and Ski be treated?
A10: Any other sport equipment will be treated within free baggage allowance as one piece but weigh and size limitations will apply. Customer will have to pay extra piece in combination with oversized charge and / or overweight charge.
